Low plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is strongly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. In the following studies we investigated two key functions of HDL: as an acceptor of cholesterol efflux, and as a vasodilatory agent through endothelial nitric oxide stimulation.
