An experimental investigation of the influence of the large-scale features of turbulent flows on the mixing of a passive scalar therein is presented. Given the direct relationship between the large scales of turbulent flows and the geometrical configuration of the flow, two distinct sets of experiments are conducted in which the dependence of the scalar mixing on the (i) scalar- and (ii) velocity-field boundary conditions is studied. The first set of experiments is conducted in the plane wake downstream of a circular cylinder.
