The object of the investigation was to determine the transient effects of a regenerator matrix on gas temperature through using equipment which was constructed to carry out tests by means of blowing hot air through a cold matrix, and to compare these results with results for the same operation predicted theoretically. The matrix consisted of a series of either 20 or 5 elements of the “flame-trap” type, each element approximately 1-7/8 inches in diameter by 1/4 inch long. Original matrix temperature was 70°F, constant inlet gas temperature was 560°F, and mass flow rate was 112 lb/ft2hr approximately. Pressure at the regenerator entry was virtually atmospheric
