The Ni-base superalloy, Waspaloy, was linear friction welded (LFWed) under various processing conditions. Specifically, axial shortening, in which all linear friction welding (LFW) parameters such as amplitude, frequency, pressure, and time are included, was varied from 0.7 to 4.6 mm. In-situ temperature measurements during welding were carried out by placing thermocouples at different locations from the weld interface. Mechanical properties of the weldments in the as-welded and post-weld heat treated (PWHTed) conditions were evaluated using tensile testing, integrated with the optical image correlation Aramis® system, and microhardness measurements.
