Flow and heat transfer in the entrance regions of smooth circular tubes have been the subject of considerable interest1 due primarily to the application they have in the design of heat exchangers. The laminar flow case has been analysed by several investigators including M. Jacob (Ref. 14) and S. Goldstein and the turbulent case by II. Latzko and more recently by R.G. Deissler (Ref.5). The analysis by Latzko was made for a Prandtl number of one and was based on an assumed one-seventh power velocity profile and the Blasius resistance formula
