This thesis examines the conditions leading to the emergence of the National Coordination for Change and Democracy (CNCD), an Algerian social movement that followed the riots of January 2011. It posits that the movement is the result of three necessary variables. Grievances that are the reasons of collective action and justify its validity. A civil society that politicises the grievances and articulates the movement in order to call for a counter-hegemonic demand. An opportunity that precipitates the movement. In this perpective, we argue that the politicisation of protests in Tunisia and the departure of President Ben Ali has led Algerian activits to reimagine the possible. In fact, these events trigger a spike of politicisation in Algeria...
