This thesis describes a series of development projects undertaken with a view to studying nuclear reactions induced by a 90 mev proton beam from the McGill synchro-cyclotron. Part l describes the installation and operation of a beam deflection system in which the internal proton beam is scattered by a 4 mil thick Uranium target into a magnetic channel designed to direct the scattered beam through a thin mica window in the vacuum chamber wall. In initial trials a current density of 2.10-13 amps/cm2 has been obtained at the exit window
