First Nations youth have a strong sense of hope about their futures and how obtaining formal education can shape that future. Evidence suggests many First Nation students in Nova Scotia are not successful in their educational pursuits. The government of Nova Scotia reports that 27% of the Aboriginal population, between 25-64 years did not complete high school as compared to 19% of the general public. The issues of education and First Nations people are complex and have multi-layer aspects from historical, cultural and community perspectives.
