The global aim of the thesis was to examine the role of pre-operative functional reserve indicators in the functional recovery of the elderly post surgery. The intent was to estimate the extent to which pre-operative functional reserve indicators predict functional recovery post-surgery. A new measurement method of physical function (as an indicator of recovery) post-surgery was developed through two projects, using Rasch Modelling.
