The variation of magnetic parameters due to the magnetic saturation and cross coupling can affect the efficiency and the stability of the control system in electrical machines, especially at high-speed operation. This paper presents an approach independent of the magnetic model parameters to control synchronous motors at the flux-weakening region. In this approach, a model order reduction technique is applied to reduce the finite element model of a synchronous machine. The stator current components and the flux linkage components are the inputs and the outputs of the reduced model, respectively.
