Egypt is predominantly Muslim, making up 90% of the population, while Christians constitute 10% of Egyptians (World Factbook, 2013–2014). Egypt’s 2014 constitution guarantees freedom of religion and stipulates that Islam is the religion of the state. Sharia is the main source of legislation, but allowing Christians and Jews to have their own personal laws such as family statutes based on their own religious rules.
