Living again the void of historic cities. A project for the area of Cantarana in Piacenza

Today the architectural culture is dealing with the question of the habitation not just as a new urban construction, but also as reorganization of the existing city. The paper explain the researching project for the realization of a sustainable block, located in the historic city of Piacenza (near intramural area), in which is possible found a strong urban will of the architectural project. The identified area is configured as a urban void near the ancient walls, historically characterized by the presence of urban gardens, and linked at the main square by the parallel axes at the decumanus. The project uses in a newest way historical analysis to recover the identity of the place and the specificity of its pre-existing environmental, trying to reestablish a more contemporary relationship between the historical urban centre and the intramural district, which over time has been lost. In this framework the urban residence is the main building device and an interesting subject of investigation for urban structure composition, as liking node between the individual and collective spaces. The European identity of urban residence is generated from an idea of the city as a collective pattern, and the expression of a community that could be considered homogeneous.La cultura architettonica si trova oggi ad affrontare la questione delle abitazioni non più come realizzazione di nuove espansioni urbane, ma pure come riorganizzazione di parti della città esistente. Strumento fondamentale ne è la residenza urbana che rappresenta da sempre l’elemento primario di costruzione della città e l’oggetto d’indagine privilegiato all’interno della struttura urbana nella sua dimensione di nodo e soglia tra l’individuo e spazio collettivo. L’identità urbana europea della residenza si è generata da un’idea di città intesa come opera collettiva, come espressione di una comunità da considerarsi omogenea. Viene qui presentata una ricerca progettuale per la realizzazione sostenibile di un quartiere, situato in un’area intramoenia della città storica a Piacenza, in cui è riscontrabile una decisa intenzionalità urbana del progetto della residenza. L’area d’intervento si configura come un vuoto urbano in corrispondenza delle mura, storicamente caratterizzato dalla presenza degli orti urbani e collegato, per mezzo dell’asse parallelo al decumano massimo, alla piazza principale della città. Il progetto si avvale con modalità nuove dell’analisi storica per recuperare l’identità del luogo e la specificità delle sue preesistenze ambientali, cercando di ristabilire una relazione, più contemporanea, fra il centro storico e l’area intramoenia, nel tempo andata perduta. La disposizione dei nuovi orti urbani ha rappresentato il tracciato ordinatore che si è deciso di seguire nella definizione della matrice alla base dell’insediamento, a partire dalla riscoperta di un importante simbolo dell’architettura della città in rapporto ai luoghi: la Main Ouvert di Le Corbusier
