Gli snoRNA (“small nucleolar RNA”) appartengono alla famiglia degli RNA non codificanti per proteine e sono componenti di particelle ribonucleoproteiche (snoRNP) coinvolte nella maturazione non solo degli rRNA ma anche di altri RNA, nelle cellule eucariotiche; la loro funzione viene svolta nel nucleolo, da cui il nome. La funzione degli snoRNA è quello di guidare la modificazione, o, in alcuni casi, il processamento endonucleolitico, della molecola di RNA bersaglio mediante appaiamento delle basi, mentre l’attività catalitica è fornita da una delle proteine della snoRNP.
