The chestnut weevil is the key insect of the chestnut crop in many Italian regions. Infestations, even though characterized by a remarkable variability through the years, can sometimes be high, reaching even 60% of production. For this reason, our research group has conducted a series of studies towards pinpointing rational control methodologies. In this contribution the biology of Curculio propinquus Desbr. is briefly described as it is responsible for serious infestations of the chestnut groves situated in the province of Viterbo.
