The dissertation was focused on the methodology of research of adult attachment. The aim of the research was to investigate the association among the results from different adult attachment measures. The research sample consisted of 136 respondents with mean age 25.2 years. Adult attachment styles were identified by "Relationship Questionnaire" (RQ, Bartholomew + Horowitz, 1991), "Attachment Styles Inventory" (ASI, Sperling + Berman, 1991) and "Reciprocal Attachment Questionnaire (RAQ, West, Sheldon, Reiffer, 1987). Both the ASI and the RAQ have been translated and administered for research of adult attachment for the first time in Latvia. The research revealed an association among different adult attachment classifications, especially regarding the results from secure and avoidant attachment styles. The correlation betweeen results in RQ fearful and RAQ compulsive care - seeking categories contradicted with the premises of attachment theory. In general the results from three aforementioned measures were comparable for making conclusions in the framework of attachment theory. Regarding the question about frequency of different attachment styles in research group, the incidence of secure attachment group was lower in comparison to the USA research data. The dimensional analysis of attachment styles affirmed that avoidant attachment is characterized by Feared Loss and ambivalent attachment - by Proximity Seeking and Separation Protest as well. In administering the "Attachment Styles and History Questionnaire" (Hazan + Shaver, 1987) the four diverse approaches to describing respondents' childhood relationships were found in connection with their attachment styles. A negative/neutral evaluations with the exception of one positive adjective (loving, affectionate) could be explained as Mary Main's proposed idealization of the attachment object - the defensive mechanism of avoidantly attached individuals. An original part of the research was an application of projective drawings. The differences among drawings in connection with respondents' attachment style and approaches to evaluation of childhood relationships were described and analyzed. The analysis of illustrative cases was carried out. In general the results affirmed the use of self-report measures and projective drawings in research of adult attachment.Abstract in Latvian and English.
