Ziel der vorliegende Studie ist es, den Einfluss vergangener Erfahrungen mit der Arbeitlosenunterstuetzung und den Erhalt von Unterstuetzungsleistungen der Eltern auf das individuelle Inanspruchnahmeverhalten von Arbeitslosenhilfe zu untersuchen. Methodologisch geht es dabei um die Frage, ob und warum hier kausale Zusammenhaenge vorliegen. Zur Pruefung der Frage werden in einem quasi-experimentellen Design Longitudinaldaten von jungen Kanadiern und Schweden verglichen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Inanspruchnahme von Arbeitslosenunterstuetzung durch die Eltern in Kanada die Zeit bis zur ersten Hilfeleistung verkuerzt, in Schweden jedoch nicht.
