The thesis is devoted to the controlled anionic polymerization of polar vinyl monomers, namely esters of acrylic and methacrylic acids, using the method of ligated anionic polymerization, the principle of which has been originally developed by the Prague group almost forty years ago. The process utilizes the stabilizing activity of some organometallic compounds which, when added into a polymerization system, restrict distinctly the extent of side reactions. Except for low-temperature methacrylate polymerizations, the method was the first successful attempt to polymerize (meth)acrylates in a controlled way.
