Erosion could be of a natural or anthropogenic form. The natural form of erosion caused by water, wind, glaciers and ground is a primary factor of landscape historical evolution. The second form of erosion - anthropogenic -is a result of interaction between human and nature and it is influenced by human behaviour. In many cases, a man's actions cause negative effects to the landscape. It could be found mostly in agricultural landscapes. The theoretical and practical problems of water erosion have been solved by the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTU Prague. There is about one half of the agricultural land area affected by water erosion in the Czech Republic. It was estimated that about 1,4 mil. ha of agricultural land have been spoiled by erosion and among that more than 450 000 ha have been spoiled seriously. Simulation models supported by GIS and remote sensing technologies are being used for assessment of erosion hazard as well as for soil conservation planning.
