Three Essays on Corruption and Extortion in the Context of Transition.

This dissertation studies the problem of corruption and extortion in the transition countries. By the virtue of the history and mentality of the population, many transition countries were very vulnerable to corruption and extortion at the very beginning of transition. Unfortunately, this problem was not well understood by the policy advisors, thus, instead of suppressing corruption and extortion, policy decisions in many cases supported the spread of these undesirable phenomena.
