Mozne cesty prenosu infekce ve stomatologicke ordinaci a jejich prevence.

The goal of our work was to verify the possible ways of cross infection in dental practice and find out solution for its prevention. In the first step we made up the Questionaire and sent it to a sample of practicing dentists to establish possible risks of infection in a dental surgery. Then followed examination of dental unit water supply which in our condition excluded the cooling water as a source of infections even through our units were not equipped with anti-retraction valves. Concerning quality of the surface disinfection of reusable dental instrument i. e. high speed handpieces we proved that under common conditions this treatment of instruments is not sufficient. We found approximately 16 percents residual bacterial contamination on the surface of these instruments. Infecting organisms can be also transmitted by aerosol generated during dental treatment. That is why we analysed samples of air in the dental surgery. Air pollution of environment in the dental surgery we tested was high and it was caused by routine preparation in oral cavity. Substantional part of aerosol droplets ca as we proved, bear bacteria as well. Tiny particles of the infected aerosol are breathable and endanger the professional staff and other persons present in dental surgery. The effective solution of air pollution in everyday dental practice could be except reducing plaque by means of oral hygiene and preventive mouthwashes, mandatory use of extraoral vacuum aspiration. This must be filtered and vented outside the operating room. Each patient should be treated by sterile hand piece during preparation.
