Estudo de proteinas relacionadas com a resposta de defesa de Lupinus Albus L. a agentes patogenicos.

Due to its richness in protein, the lupin (Lupinus spp.) seed could be used as an alternative to soybean (Hill, 1977). Lupinus albus is already extensively cultivated in Russia and Chile, being also important in Portugal. One of the most serious diseases in lupin is anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (d'Oliveira, 1955; Baldwin, 1976; Plancquaert, 1984; Gondran et al., 1994). The need of developing new crop protection methods has raised, in the last years, great interest in the biochemical and molecular study of the plant / pathogen interaction. The work here described concerned the study of proteins related to the defense response of Lupinus species, particularly L. albus, after infection with C. gloeosporioides. In the first stage, the development of symptoms and the analysis of changes in the polypeptidic patterns were studied in four lupin species, L. angustifolius, L. mutabilis, L. luteus and L. albus.
