The finite element method is now well established as a powerful as well as versatile technique in many fields of engineering analysis. Nevertheless, in current finite element system, finite element modelers are poorly structured and conceived independent of the geometric modelers, precluding the emergence of really automatic finite element systems. Consideration is given in this thesis to the development of an integrated modeling system that provides complete and unique geometric representations based on spatially oriented, hierarchical data structures.
