Subject of investigation: pure metals, binary and multi-component metal alloys. Purpose: study of the volumetric properties of metals, finding of a possibility of structural changes and microseparations in their liquid state, thermodynamic analysis of the nature of this phenomenon. Thermal oscillations of the thermal expansion coefficients of metals and alloys are revealed. The work shows that the melts of Fe-B, Ni-Cr and Ni-B close to the liquidus may be in a metastable colloidal condition. A thermodynamic analysis is made for the possibility of such states.
