The thin-film metal - dielectric - metal (MDM) systems on base of the different materials for dielectrics and electrodes have been investigated for a purpose of studying formation and degradation nature of the moulded channels (MC) and development of the technological procedures improving the electric and operated characteristics of the MDM cathodes on base of the electric-moulded systems. The similarity and difference in the electric moulding and breakdown processes of the MDM-system have been revealed. It has been determined that the preliminary formation of the breakdown channel with certain structure and geometrical dimensions is the necessary condition for MC formation.
