THE DIATOMACEOUS ALGAE OF THE SEA ICES OF THE SOUTH OCEAN

Differing from the foregoing works, to be made usually in one region of the South Ocean, the present investigation has covered 5 coastal regions of the ice zone round the Antarctica during one vegetation season. This has allowed to essentially add the data about the systematic composition of the diatomaceoos in the communities, the peculiarities of its distribution and biogeography. Detected have been 103 species and intraspecies taxons of the diatomaceous algae, relating to 2 classes, 6 orders, 15 families and 31 kins. The base of the infiltration community form, mainly, the representatives of kin Fragilariopsis, and Chaetoceros dichaeta and Manguinea rigida. The composition of the cryointersticial community is more variable and is presented by the different species of the pennate and centric diatoms. In the community of the bottom layer of ice, the typical epontic diatoms and the number of the ice forms dominate. The seasonal differences in the composition of the soecies-dominants are weakly expressed. The systematic composition of the diatoms in the ice and in the phytoplankton is similar.
