Investigated have been Y-Al-garnet crystals, doped with magnesium, calcium and chromium admixtures. The work has been aimed at investigating spectral, luminescent, phototropic and generating characteristics of four-valent chromium ions in Y-Al-garnet crystals. Calculated have been energies of electron states of admixture ion with d_2-electron configuration, being in crystallic field described by the D_2_d point symmetry group. Built has been the active center model on the basis of Cr_4_+ ion describing generating and phototropic characteristics of Y-Al-garnet crystals: Cr_4_+.
