The work covers the proof of essential contribution of upper harmonics to structure modulation in inadequate phase. Domain shape and orientation have been determined in ferroelectric phase Sn_2P_2S_6. Mechanisms for thermooptical memory effect detected in inadequate phase Sn_2P_2Se_6 have been offered. sigma -t diagrams have been constructed and their analysis carried out within the framework of phenomenological approach. The found out high piezooptical parameters of Sn_2P_2S_6 crystals allow to recommend this material for use when developing piezooptical transducers.
