'The Estonian pre-transition labor market had job security, hidden unemployment, pay egalitarianism, and high female labor force participation. The transition from state socialism to a market economy coincided with the movement from the industrial, Fordist model to the post-industrial, post-Fordist model. Mid-career women in Estonia experience growing uncertainties from these institutional and structural changes, including a substantial decrease in labor demand and weak safety nets.
