A comparative compilation of basic technical and economical data is presented for the magnetic levitated train 'TRANSRAPID' and for the wheel/rail system ICE (InterCityExpress) of the German Federal Railroads. The compilation includes: Partial systems (train vehicles, driving devices, power supply, railways, control technique), strategies of maintenance, course and planning of operations, environmentally relevant data and economics. An assessment is made of future technical developments in both transportation systems.
