Considered is the computation problem of turbulent flow past aircraft configuration, and configuration components, for Mach numbers up to transonic and hypersonic values. Discussed are the problem of transition laminar-turbulent, and especially the choice, application and validation of turbulence models ranging from scalar models to transport-equation models of all kind. Special attention is given to separated flow, where the still insufficient predictions make new ways of treatment necessary, first of all, however, a sound diagnosis where and why current statistical turbulence models fail.
