Use of satellite imagery for topographic mapping should above all be to the benefit of developing countries, since the enormous uncovered demand for maps in these countries can be satisfied only by a quick and cost-efficient method of mapping. Possible uses of satellite imagery for topographic mapping in less developed countries are investigated in the present doctoral thesis based on SPOT images of Nigeria and Indonesia.
