During the last years methods for motion estimation and compensation have become a kind of key technology for different applications in image processing and coding. Using these methods a conversion between different HDTV-standard can be performed while maintaining excellent picture quality. This has become even more important since a unique world-wide HDTV standard is not in view. Also for conversion between film, HDTV and TV as well as for multi-media applications and for slow-motion, motion compensating methods are necessary in order to avoid motion artefacts. For this application area appropriate concepts have been developed which can also be implemented in hardware. Real-time-processing is supported up to HDTV-sampling rates of 144 MHz....
