Compression and data path simplification in the context of texture and bump mapping hardware opens new solutions ranging from low-cost to very-high-quality raster engines for real-time photorealistic rendering. An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is specified, where bump- and reflection mapping of textured surfaces is executed by a dedicated decoding and shading circuitry. This report addresses the interface and design synthesis issues of a circuit prototype and test environment.
