The aim of this project was the developement of an economic process for the production of multicrystalline silicon. The cost for multicrystalline silicon solarcells will be decreased by economy of scale, higher efficiencies and cheaper consumables; the cost structure have to be improved by all process steps. The further improvement of the crystallisation process by a new furnace design is based upon the discussions and results of earlier projects. The further work on these details lead to a new design, which could be described with the following main aspects: fast cooling process, resistance heaters and fixed cruicible without movement during the crystallisation process.
