Conduction of natural gases and mineral oils is often beset with corrosion problems. This particularly concerns the pipelines, which are exposed to condensates and the usually highly saline reservoir water. The corrosive attack is often aggravated by accompanying aggressive gases such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide. Elemental sulphur also enhances the corrosiveness of the conveyed liquid or gas. The materials selected for study were already proven in sour gas conduction. Moreover, the limits to their application for conduction of sweet and sour gases without elemental sulphur were largely known.
