The most important reason for this project is the recovery of these precious metals. An electric furnace was used - after several test runs in two different laboratory-furnaces - to develop an efficient pyrometallurgical process for the recovery of the precious metals. In general copper was used as collector metal. By means of suited fluxes a slag of low precious metals content was produced. The development of a production-size furnace for the treatment of automotive catalysts and the recovery of precious metals, especially of Rhodium, was the final result of the experiments in the Degussa - electric furnace. (orig./BWI)Anlass dieses Projektes ist die Rueckgewinnung der in den Katalysatoren befindlichen Edelmetalle Pt, Pd und vor allem Rhodium. In einem Elektroofen erfolgte - nach Vorversuchen in zwei Laborofentypen - die pyrometallurgische Rueckgewinnung der Edelmetalle. Im allgemeinen diente Kupfer als Sammlermetall. Die unter Zusatz von Flussmitteln entstandene Schlacke war weitgehend edelmetallarm. Die Versuche erbrachten Ergebnisse, die in der Entwicklung eines Produktionsofens zur Rueckgewinnung von Rhodium (neben Platin und Palladium) muendeten.
