Divided into four subprojects different aspects of the phase formation during the solidification of peritectics and metal-matrix composites have been investigated. Objective of this work was a better understanding of the microscopic processes and resulting properties. Within the project it could be shown that: - Cu-Mn alloy in the range of the melting point minimum are best suited to investigate morphological transitions and segregation phenomena, thus the comparision of earth- and space samples clearly show the occurance of transient solidification conditions - a new method of polarimetry with high spatial resolution is able to show the dynamic of diffusion processes in transparent systems - the present models of phase selection in peritec...
