Active filler controlled pyrolysis has been applied as a novel preparation route to massive ceramic composites with dimensional accuracy during the forming process. Transition metals (Ti, Cr, Mo) and silicides (CrSi_2, TiSi_2, SiC) have been used as filler materials together with different polysiloxanes as polymer precursors. Nitration catalyzed by the filler material under nitrogen pressure (0.1-1 MPa) compensates the pronounced shrinkage and reduces the formation of pores connected with the pyrolysis of the polymers. Monolithic composite materials have been obtained with a linear shrinkage of 0-7% and a flexural strength of 400-500 MPa.
