In the following the development of a new generation of heat pumps is introduced, that is characterized by a more efficient cycle allowing a reduction of the specific energy consumption. Essentially there are two reasons requiring this development: 1. In the new Heat Demand Decree being in force in Germany lower values for the annual space heat demand are laid down. They are gained by an improved heat insulation, the use of heat recovery facilities and solar architecture. The annual heat demand for the production of hot potable and service water will remain nearly constant. 2.
