The significance of modern thin-film technologies as regards the surface refinement of classical materials has been increasing during the past years. Thin-film technologies are mainly based on vacuum, plasma and ion technology film deposition and surface modification principles. Plasma polymerization, which has been investigated at IKV for seven years, is expected to gain in importance. Plasma polymerization is a low-temperature vacuum coating method which is particularly suited for plastics coating on account of low thermal substrate stresses. The simultaneous gas discharge activation of suitable gases and vapors and of the substrate surface ensures a deposition of thin films with a wide spectrum of properties which can hardly be achieved ...
