The development of RODOS, a comprehensive, Real-time, On-line DecisiOn Support system for nuclear emergency management, that would be capable of finding broad application across Europe was included as a major item in the Radiation Protection Research Action of the European Commission's 3rd Framework Programme; it remains an important priority in the 4th Framework programme (1995-1998).
