The project work reported encompasses experiments for investigation of the direct condensation of steam/gas mixtures in jet condensers under emergency conditions. A task of main interest was to establish the database for the dimensioning of an industrial-scale system and the description of processes such as the flow of the steam/gas mixture in the blow-down pipe, the independent suction of cooling water by the jet condenser, and the overall condensation efficiency of these components. Experiments also covered unfavorable conditions of condensation, as e.g. a high amount of non-condensable gases in the mixture, or a low-entrainment temperature difference.
