The results of a five-year BMFT-supported absorption heat pump research project are summarized. The design and construction of a pilot plant which heats and cools the Schleissheim repair hangar of Deutsches Museum were accompanied by scientific studies. The switching variant of a two-stage absorption heat pump which had already been put to laboratory tests within the framework of another project supported by the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology was used to supply heat at two temperature levels, i.e. at 39 C and 70 C. Numerous theoretical and practical studies were made. The pilot plant demonstrates that complex switching variants can be handled satisfactorily in practice.
