On the basis of preliminary investigations carried out y STEAG, MEAG initiated a study in which the companies ABB and LLB cooperated with Zittau Technical University in developing a process for a 100 MW_e plant. The plant is to be fuelled with raw brown coal from East German open-cast mines; a site for the plant will probably be chosen in the supply area of the MEAG. The efficiency of the whole combined cycle was calculated using precise cycle process calculations. The calculated efficiency was 42-43% for raw brown coal and 40.5-41% for drier coal, especially hard coal.
