The S2 method (2D throughflow, meridian flow or flow line curvation process) has a central role in turbine design. It offers a good compromise between high accuracy and short computing time. The report describes the theory of the S2 method, the basic equations and the calculation method. Modelling of the radial mixture exchange is gone into, and the Gallimore/Cumpsty and Lewis models are described. The latter has been implemented in the S2 method.
