Because of the fact that statutory demands on the thermal protection of buildings have become constantly more stringent, building-related effects formerly viewed as rather marginal are now experienced as disturbances of some magnitude. These include particularly ventilation-induced heat loss, internal and external heat gains, thermal interrelations of adjacent rooms and, especially, user behaviour. Such factors are of a strongly instationary nature so that, on the whole, one may speak of high dynamic load conditions. Studying resulting problem formulations calls for an integral approach.
