Finned tubes are used inter alia in power station dry cooling towers, while hot steam or liquid passes through the tubes' inside, they are outwardly sworounded by cold air. Because of the higher thermal resistance at the side of the tube exposed to the air, the tube is fitted with fins at the outside. One possibility for enhancing effectively a fin's heat transfer performance is by means of elements causing vortices in longitudinal direction, which can be easily punched from the fin and bent outwardly and which assume, at the same time, the function of a support.
