The report is to provide the Eastern European countries with information on how district heat supply may be organized. It is based on the status and trends of district heating in the new Laender of Germany and on the technical, economic and legal problems encountered here. The heat supply structure in the former GDR, selected countries of Eastern Europe, and the former FRG is reviewed, and the experience gained and solutions developed in the transition to a market economy are pointed out. The results will be offered to the Eastern European countries for evaluation and use.
