The research project 'Combined Control of NO_x Formation and Reduction of NO_x Already Formed - Fuel Splitting and Staging' is aiming at the reduction of nitrogen emissions from pf firings with coal-derived reburn fuels. The development and design of a semi-industrial test rig and its equipment are described in part 1 of the report. This test rig separates the known combustion processes into the individual process steps - separation of fuel into residual coal and volatile matter, - separation of volatile matter into gaseous and vapour-state constituents, - combustion of residual coal with decreased NO_x formation in a primary combustion zone, - NO_x reduction with volatile matter, gaseous or vapour-state constituents in a reburn zone downst...
