Analytical results and background informations about 9288 garden soils, 276 samples of garden waste and 6882 samples of vegetables and fruits had been collected all over the FR of Germany (former countries) and evaluated in regard to their contents of heavy metals and concentrations of environnmental organic compounds. It was possible, to associate most of the results to a) special types of regions e.g. urban or rural areas and b) special locations without resp. with specific causes of loadings. Zinc, lead, cadmium and copper in garden soils are the wide spread heavy metals with higher concentrations than in arable soils. Other anorganic and organic substances have more local importance.
